GA Parameters Extractor

About the GA Parameters Extractor add-on for Google Sheets

The GA Parameters Extractor add-on for Google Sheets connects to your Google Analytics accounts to help you spot unwanted query string parameters in your Google Analytics views that may distort your page metrics, expose personal information, or simply dirty the URLs of a website.

It lists all the query string parameters that appear in a Google Analytics view of your choice and lets you know in how many unique URLs they were seen (occurrences), how many times they were seen in total (views) and gives you an example URL in which the parameter was spotted.

Known errors and exceptions

"No Google Analytics account found"

The Google account that you are currently using is not linked to any Google Analytics account, or none that the Google account your are currently using has access to.

"No property found for this Google Analytics account"

The selected Google Analytics account does not have any property yet, or none that the Google account you are currently using has access to.

"No view found for this Google Analytics property"

The selected Google Analytics property does not have any view yet, or none that the Google account you are currently using has access to.

"You do not have sufficient permissions to retrieve data from this Google Analytics view"

The Google account you are currently using is only allowed to read data from the selected Google Analytics view, therefore you are not allowed to import data from this view to Google Sheets.

"This Google Analytics view did not record any pageviews for the requested period"

The selected Google Analytics view did not record any visit for the requested period, either because no visitor actually saw any page within the studied domain or because the Analytics tools installed on the studied website(s) do not send any data to Google Analytics.

"No parameter was found for this Google Analytics view"

From all the URLs processed by the GA Parameters Extractor within the selected period of time, none contained query string parameters.

"Your report is based on a sample"

The GA Parameters Extractor add-on is using the Google Analytics Core Reporting API v3, which allows up to 10 000 requests per user per day (see details here). Hence the number of pagepaths one user can process per day with the add-on is limited to 10 000. If your request exceed this limit, your report will be base on a sample. This behaviour is similar to that of Google Analytics' graphical interface to the extent of one detail. In Google Analytics' graphical interface, when sampling is applied to a report, the user gets to choose between two options: "greater precision" and "faster response". In the GA Parameters Extrator, the method in use is a combination of both of these options. Thus, there might be slight differences in the data displayed by the graphical interface and the add-on.

"An error occurred"

Messages beginning as such will appear only when your request times out because the servers took too long to answer or your computer failed to process it (rare). Any other source is yet unknown.
